Central Pelion Greece, a new cultural heritage destination at Geo Routes Cultural Heritage Journeys

Early June 2014, Central Pelion in Greece became the new cultural destination at Geo Routes Cultural Heritage Journeys (www.geo-routes.com) under the auspices of the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO.

Geo Routes 26th new destination in Greece was officially launched with the participation of a selected group of General Managers from the Chief Executive Officers’ Association, who were willing to explore – experience and be part of the ‘secret’ wonders of the land of Magnesia.

Due to its ease of access, the Mountain of the Centaurs is considered to be a favorite destination all year-round, that offers sites of unparallel natural beauty, rich gastronomy and a rich cultural heritage from myths, legends and traditions.

Geo Routes, will have 3 different journeys of 3-days each available in the region of Magnesia and Mt. Pelion. The one already launched is focused on Central Pelion and more specifically to the villages of Makrynitsa, Ag.Georgios Nileias, Pinakates, Vyzitsa and Milies. In addition this tour highlights will be the Archaeological Museum and the old Brickworks factory-museum in the city of Volos. Volos Archaeological Museums’ exhibits dated back to the Neolithic era, and the old Brickworks factory-museum is a rare surviving example industrial complex in Greece, that declares the commercial & industrial power and development of the city in the early 20th century.

Associate partners at Geo Routes’ Mountain of the Centaurs’ journey will be: the 13th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities, the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation, Volos City department of Antiquities-Museums-Libraries, Ag.Georgios Nileias Cultural Society of ‘Centaur’, the Women Association Hesperides in Vyzitsa, Trainose Volos etc.
