The 6th labor of Hercules (Mountainous Corinthia)

Our journey takes place close to Athens (160klms) in the Corinthian plateau and the alpine scenery of Kyllini Mountain, which in Greek mythology was relatively connected with the 1st and 6th labors of hero Hercules. The beauty of this region is thanks to the lakes of Doxa and Stymphalia, the valley of Flampouritsa (Natura 2000), a nature rich in flora and fauna, the firs and the black pine trees covering mostly the mountains, the small picturesque villages and cute secrets that making difference. Detailed Itinerary

Day : 1 - Athens – Diolkos – Ancient Nemea - Trikala, Corinthia

08.00am departure to the Corinthian plateau. On the way stop to see Corinth Canal connecting the Corinthian with Saronic seas and listen about Diolkos which used to be the ancient paved track for overland crossing of the boats prior to the opening of the canal. Next stop at Nemea, famous in Greek mythology with the 6th feat of Hercules who killed the horrific Lion, also for the ancient Panhellenic games that held every 4 years in honor of Zeus. In Ancient Nemea you see the amazing Temple of Zeus and the Stadium. Before leaving Nemea, you will listen about the cultivation and the production of the famous Agiorgitiko red wine and enjoy a wine tasting to a premium local winery. Arrival to Trikala, Corinthia in late afternoon. Time at leisure. Dinner and Overnight.

Day : 2 - Lake Doxa - Stymfalia Environmental Museum – Athens

Day at leisure. 12h00am departure to lake Doxa, a place of unparallel natural beauty and home of the small church of St. Fanourios which is connected to the mainland by a narrow strip of land. On our way back, you see lake Stymfalia, aknown for the 6th labor of Hercules and visit the Environmental Museum which highlights the dependence of humans with the nature and their harmonious coexistence. Arrival to Athens in the evening.
